A man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Philadelphia’s Grays Ferry neighborhood late Thursday night, police said.
Surveillance video showed the 64-year-old man crossing at the crosswalk along the 2900 block of Grays Ferry Avenue around 10 p.m. when he was struck by a speeding Honda Accord that ran through a red light, according to investigators.
“You have to be careful when you cross here," a neighbor told NBC10.
Police said the victim may have been dragged 100 feet before the vehicle fled the scene.

People who live in the area say that it's a busy road with a lot of cars and a lot of foot traffic.
“We have a liquor store here, we have a bank, we have a post office. So people are coming back and forth here. This is a high-traffic area anyway," Sewa Arya, who lives nearby, explained.
The man was found on the street with severe injuries to his head and the rest of his body. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet revealed his identity.

This incident marks the eighth person to be killed in the city of Philadelphia by a hit-and-run crash in 2024, according to police data.
Police found the victim’s boot, a possible cellphone and car parts at the scene of the crash. Police continue to investigate and they are working on notifying his family members.
