"The scene where we found the victim laying consists of over 30 spent shell casings," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

"Clearly, there are what appears to be semi-automatic handgun spent shell casings and also rifle round spent shell casings," Small added. "So clearly, two separate caliber, it appears that there was a handgun that was fired multiple times and a rifle that was fired multiple times. Just a few feet away from where the victim was laying, we did find a semi-automatic handgun."

Small added that a vehicle, which they believe belongs to the victim, was struck by gunfire multiple times. Also glass surrounding the rear doors of the apartment complex was hit by gunfire.

No arrests were immediately made, police said.

Despite this killing, homicides in Philadelphia are down this year about 28%. The 50 homicides, as of Wednesday, are the lowest year-to-date total dating back to when police data is tabulated in 2008.
