Man killed after being shot multiple times in Fern Rock, police say

A 22-year-old man died after being shot multiple times in an incident that happened near the intersection of Carmac and Chew streets on Wednesday night, police said

A man is dead after he was shot multiple times in Philadelphia’s Fern Rock neighborhood Wednesday night.

At around 5:31 p.m., Chief Police Inspector Scott Small said police responded to multiple reports of shots fired at Camac and Chew streets.

A 22-year-old man was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso next to a property, according to the Philadelphia police.

In an update on Thursday morning, officials said officers recovered more than 30 spent shells recovered from the scene of the shooting.

"Clearly this 22-year-old victim was targeted since he was hit multiple times and most of the spent shell casing were just a few feet away from where the victim was laying on the side," Small said.

The victim -- who police identified as Naseem James of Fern Rock -- was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m.

Small said James' last known address was just about a mile from where he was shot.
