A man was killed in a hit-and-run along North Broad Street in North Philadelphia Sunday evening.

A hit-and-run involving a pedestrian and a car happened along the 3900 block of North Broad Street -- near the intersection of Elser Street -- just after 7 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2024, Police Inspector D.F. Pace said.

The victim, a 56-year-old man, was found on the street and was suffering from injuries that appeared to be from being hit by a car. He was transported to the hospital by medics where pronounced dead a short time later, Pace said.

The driver who hit the victim in the middle of the street drove off, Pace said.

Due to the impact of the collision, parts of the car were left scattered on Broad Street, Pace said. That combined with surveillance video in the area helped investigators quickly identify the car.

"We were able to locate it and it is currently in police custody," Pace said Sunday night.

The driver left the damaged car.

Investigators continued to work overnight to figure out who the driver of the car was, Pace said.

Pace urged anyone who might strike someone to stop, rather than drive off and add to the possible charges they could face.
