Man dies after crashing car into SEPTA bus while fleeing traffic stop, police say

A man is dead after crashing a vehicle into a SEPTA bus after police said he took off during a traffic stop.

A 23-year-old man died Saturday morning after he crashed a car into a SEPTA bus while attempting to flee from a traffic stop, police said.

According to police, the incident happened at 1:07 a.m. at Frankford and East Allegheny Avenues in Kensington.

Police said a 2005 silver Mini Cooper was traveling fast going eastbound on Allegheny Ave. and a SEPTA bus was traveling northbound on Frankford Ave with two passengers.

The driver of the Mini Cooper went through a red light an hit the SEPTA bus at the intersection, according to police.

Police said medics pronounced the driver dead on the scene at 1:17 a.m.

It's not clear why the officers tried to stop the driver, but investigators told NBC10 they watched as the man sped off and crashed into the bus about a block away.

Police said the driver of the bus and the two passengers were not injured. There was minimal damage to the bus.
