Man, 21, Dies in Accidental Shooting at Philadelphia Gun Range

A young man died after apparently shooting himself in the chest by accident at a Philadelphia gun range Tuesday.

Police said Wednesday the shooting, which occurred about 7:15 p.m. at The Gun Range, on Percy Street near Spring Garden just outside Center City, remains under investigation, but preliminary details indicate that a 21-year-old man at the range was handling a gun as if it had jammed at some point.

Not long after the gun appeared jammed, police said, the gun somehow accidentally went off, sending a bullet into the upper left side of the man's chest. Medics took him to nearby Hahnemann University Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:34 p.m.

Police have not yet released the man's identity.
