It's the end of an era. After 43 years of serving fine French cuisine, Le Bec-Fin is saying adieu.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the well-known restaurant will close in mid-June, likely after dinner June 15.
The paper says it will be replaced by a new restaurant -- with a new name -- serving progressive American cuisine. The chef will be Philadelphia native Justin Bogle.
Chef Chris Scarduzio will be the restaurant's director of operations. He has had a long association with Le Bec-Fin through its legendary founder, Georges Perrier.
Scarduzio says the restaurant “deserves an honorable retirement.”
"It was time to retire Le Bec-Fin," he told the paper.
Perrier founded the restaurant in 1970. He stepped down in March 2012 and Le Bec-Fin's new team wasn't able to revive the restaurant's lost luster after a series of menu and pricing changes.
