A group hoping to stop the demolition of the 101-year-old Camden High School building known as "The Castle on the Hill'' is asking a court to halt the teardown.
NJ.com reports that a federal lawsuit was filed Tuesday seeking an injunction to stop demolition, which began this month. The building is set to be replaced as part of a $133 million project scheduled for completion in 2021.
Opponents of demolition say the building is part of the city's cultural identity.
Superintendent Paymon Rouhanifard says the nostalgia of adults can't trump the needs of students.
Rouhanifard says some elements of the old building may be preserved, but the preservationists' key goal to save the school's soaring Neo-Gothic towers would be too expensive.
