King of Prussia Mall Baby Kidnapping Suspect to Claim Insanity

Back in March, an infant was kidnapped from the King of Prussia Mall after a mother was chatting with a stranger. Now, accused kidnapper Cherie Amoore is allegedly planning to use “insanity” as a defense.

A suburban Philadelphia woman charged with kidnapping a newborn from the popular King of Prussia shopping mall plans to use an insanity defense.

The (West Chester) Daily Local News reports attorneys for Cherie Amoore have filed court documents laying out their plans.

Amoore has told police she gave birth to a baby that died after only a few hours in February. But her attorneys claim the 32-year-old Tredyffrin woman suffered from mental problems relating to a false pregnancy and subsequent depression. [[374304771, C]]

Police say she struck up a conversation with the baby's mother at the King of Prussia Mall in Montgomery County in March and took him when the mother was distracted with another child.

The baby boy was found at Amoore's nearby apartment.
