Kids Witness Deadly Stabbing in South Philadelphia

A man was found dead on a South Philadelphia Street early Wednesday and a blood trail lead police to a violent scene.

Two young children witnessed an argument that lead to a deadly stabbing inside a home along the 400 block of Dudley Street in South Philadelphia early Wednesday, according to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Small says officers were called to the 400 block of McKean Street just before 3 a.m. and found an unconscious man lying in the street. He was stabbed several times and was pronounced dead, Small told reporters on the scene.

Officers followed a blood trail to the Dudley Street home and found signs of a violent altercation inside the home, according to Small.

Investigators say the other man involved in the altercation was stabbed and seriously injured. He was transported to a hospital by a private vehicle.

It's believed the two men knew each other and got into an argument that turned violent, said Small.

"At the time of the homicide unfortunately there were two very young boys in the house who witnessed the entire incident," Small told NBC10.

A family member disputed the claim by police. The family member told NBC10 later Wednesday morning that the kids while home during the incident didn't see any of the violent encounter.

The children were questioned by homicide detectives. No charges have been filed.
