Home Invasion Victim Faces Manslaughter Charges After Chasing Down Suspects, Shooting Teen: Police

The son of a man killed in a Delaware home invasion last year faced charges of his own because police say he chased down the robbers and killed a teenager.

Delaware State Police said in a news release that troopers arrested 21-year-old Jacob Leager on Thursday on manslaughter charges after he chased the home intruders, opened up their car door and fired, killing 18-year-old Haley Henwood.

Police say Leager and his father, Clifton Leager, were shot by suspects who invaded their Dover home in October. Clifton Leager died as a result.

Officials say Jacob Leager then picked up a handgun that was dropped by the intruders — whom police identified as Saleem Shabazz and Matthew Harrington — and chased after them to the area where they had parked their car. He fired a shot into the vehicle, striking Henwood, who later died from her injuries.

Leager was booked at Sussex Correctional Institution unable to post $60,000 bond. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
