Woman Waiting at Bus Stop Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia

Yvonne Cantz was on the 10000 block of Academy Road Sunday afternoon when she was struck by Joseph Thompson, Philadelphia police said.

An arrest has been made in the hit-and-run death of a woman who was waiting at a bus stop in Northeast Philadelphia.

A 64-year-old woman waiting at a bus stop was struck and killed by a hit-and-run vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.

On Tuesday, police identified the suspected hit-and-run driver who they say killed Yvonne Cantz on the 10000 block of Academy Road.

Cantz was was struck by a man driving a white Ford F-150 around 4 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle then fled southbound on Academy Road, police said.

Cantz died a short time later at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.

Police later found the hit-and-run vehicle about a mile and a half away on Woodhaven and Knight roads. The hood of the vehicle had noticeable damage. 

Joseph Thompson, 52, of the 3100 block of Draper Street, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle and related offenses.

"It's a shame," the suspect's neighbor said. "He just made a mistake, that's all. He ran away. That was the biggest mistake."
