The Pennsylvania Department of Health is searching for a man who they say handled an injured red fox that tested positive for rabies.
On Monday afternoon, Radnor Township police responded to a call about an injured fox near 400 E. Lancaster Avenue in Wayne. When police arrived they say they found a man holding the fox in a blanket. The man then allegedly left the scene before identifying himself.
Investigators say the animal was sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Bureau of Laboratories where they confirmed the fox had rabies.
Police are urging the man and anyone else who may have come into contact with the fox to call the Health Department at 610-378-4352. Contact includes having been bitten or scratched. It also includes having saliva, nervous system fluid or tissue from the animal enter an open wound or the eyes, nose and mouth.
