Ex-Headmaster Appeals Child Porn Conviction in Front of Delaware Supreme Court

Delaware's Supreme Court is hearing an appeal by a former prep school headmaster challenging his child pornography conviction.

Wednesday's hearing follows Christopher Wheeler's conviction last year on 25 counts of dealing child porn. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Wheeler is a former headmaster at Tower Hill school in Wilmington, whose graduates include former DuPont Co. CEO Ellen Kullman, U.S. Sen. Chris Coons and television personality Dr. Oz.

Wheeler's attorney has argued that authorities used possible witness tampering as a pretext to obtain warrants to search Wheeler's computers for child pornography. He also argues that prosecutors presented no evidence that Wheeler viewed or downloaded any images of child porn or even knew that they were being automatically cached to his computer from newsgroups to which he had subscribed.
