Four Penn State students have been charged with misdemeanor liquor law violations after a massive tailgate outside a game against Ohio State that involved a police helicopter flying too low and scattering tents and property.
The decision to charge the students was made following the incident in which a Pennsylvania state police helicopter had to break up disorderly conduct that was taking place at the Penn State-Ohio State football game on Sept. 29.
When participants refused to disperse the tailgate, the chopper flew in to try to make an announcement to disperse attendees, causing tents and other items to go flying away.
State police said they regretted any damage that occurred, and Penn State suspended the use of helicopters to make announcements outside football games following the incident.
The four students accused of organizing and running the tailgate have been charged with selling alcohol without a license and providing alcohol to people under the age of 21.
