A child and a woman have been hospitalized after a house fire at a home in North Philadelphia early Thursday, officials said.

According to fire officials, crews were dispatched to a home along the 1500 block of North Gratz Street in North Philadelphia at about 6:33 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024.

According to Brandon Wilson, a battalion chief with the Philadelphia Fire Department, crews pulled a young boy and a woman -- whom Wilson initially believed to be the child's grandmother -- out of the home.

In a morning update, police officials said the woman was 38-years-old, but did not disclose her relationship to the injured child.

Also, officials believe the boy is between 3 and 5 years old -- though he was initially identified as a 5-year-old -- police and fire officials provided different ages when asked for updates on this case.
