Father, Teen Son Shot During Violent Night in Philadelphia

The shooting was one of at least 10 reported since Saturday afternoon, police said

A father and his teen son were shot in the Tacony neighborhood in northeast Philadelphia early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The father, 43, whose identity was not released by police, was shot twice in his back around 3:25 a.m. at a residence on Glenloch Street, authorities said.

His 16-year-old son was also shot in the elbow and right thigh, police said.

The 43-year-old was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in critical condition. The teen was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in stable condition.

Philadelphia police are still looking for the shooter or shooters behind the incident. 

At least 10 shootings have been reported since Saturday at 5 p.m., including fatal shootings in Eastwick and Berks Street. 

A 7-year-old was also shot inside a home in northwest Philadelphia Saturday night, police said.

The child was transported to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

There was also a shooting around 1:10 a.m. on North Fairhill Street that left a 59-year-old man in critical condition. Around 8:18 a.m. on Sunday on Osage Avenue, another shooting resulted in a man shot in the thigh and placed in critical condition.

A count by the Philadelphia Office of the City Controller, last updated Aug. 18, shows at least 313 fatal and 1,193 non deadly victims of gunfire in 2022. The Philadelphia Police Department had recorded at least 346 killings as of Aug. 20, a 1% increase from the same time in 2021, which ended as the year with the most killings in Philadelphia's recorded history.
