Exton Square Mall Carnival cancelled following assault

A permit for Exton Square Mall Carnival -- that was to take place through Saturday, May 18 -- has been revoked after 'out of control behavior' from visitors and an assault that was caught on camera

The owners of the Concord Mall in Wilmington are officially shutting down a carnival that had a deadly shooting take place over the weekend. A teenager was shot and killed, and another was injured. This is the second carnival in the region to be shut down for violent attacks. NBC10’s Tim Furlong has the details.

A carnival that was expected the continue throughout next week at the Exton Square Mall has been cancelled as, the West Whiteland Police Department said organizers have had their permit revoked after an assault, on Saturday night, was caught on camera.

The West Whiteland Police Department shared surveillance video from the incident on social media shortly after it happened on Saturday night.

That video can be viewed here.

Officials closed the carnival -- that was intended to run through Saturday, May 18 -- located in the parking lot at the Exton Square Mall, along the 200 block of Exton Square in Exton, at about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday after, they said, an assault occurred at the mall.

Police detailed surveillance video shared by a local business, saying it showed "a male with long hair being punched and kicked several times."

The organizers of the event, Goodtime Amusements, based in Hellertown, said the carnival was cancelled "indefinitely" because of "out of control behavior and the unrest that transpired."

"This is the first time I've had permits revoked in 37 years of operation," Jefrey Good with Good Time Amusements said.

"This past weekend, an incident involving a large group of teenagers disrupted the carnival at Exton Square, which necessitated intervention to ensure the safety of all patrons and community members. As a result of this, local authorities made the decision to close the carnival for the remainder of the event - a decision that was not made lightly, but that prioritized the security of our guests, employees, and the community," a statement from PREIT about the carnival at Exton Square said.

Officials said that there were several witnesses to the incident and police are still working to identify the assailants, the victim and locate other witnesses.

"We just have a societal issue with youth doing as they please I suppose. Everybody sees it," Good said.

If anyone has information about the assault or can identify anyone in the video they are asked to leave a tip on the West Whiteland Police Department's Crimewatch or contact DSgt. McCloskey at jmccloskey@westwhiteland.org.
