Explosive Device Detonates in Front of Delaware Home, Woman Accuses Estranged Husband

No one hurt in overnight explosion in Elsmere. Police respond to nearby home.

A 48-year-old man allegedly left an explosive device outside the home of his estranged wife in Delaware.

A 48-year-old man is in custody after an explosive device detonated in front of a Delaware home early Monday morning, according to the Delaware fire marshal's office.

Police found an additional three explosives in a house belonging to suspect Mark Consiglio. He was charged with three counts of manufacturing, possessing and using an explosive device, police said.

He awaited arraignment late Monday, and additional charges were expected, according to police.

The blast took place shortly after midnight Monday outside a home on the 1300 block of Cypress Avenue in Elsmere, investigators said. A woman who identified herself as Consiglio's estranged wife said she was the intended target.

She told NBC10 that she and Consiglio have been separated for six months. He has threatened her before, she said. They have a 9-year-old child together.

Fire marshals and local and New Castle County police all responded to the scene, deploying a bomb robot. A window was damaged, but no one was hurt, the fire marshal said.

Residents were advised to shelter in place around 11:45 a.m. That alert was lifted at 5:30 p.m.

The News Journal of Wilmington reported that 23-year-old William Ivone dropped to the ground after the device exploded just outside his Cypress Avenue address. He told the newspaper he spotted a familiar figure running away, describing the person as "sick in the head."

Ivone and his mother were home at the time the device exploded.
