Egg Harbor Woman Crashes Car After Suffering Medical Issue

A woman is in the hospital after an apparent medical issue caused her to lose control of her vehicle and crash in Egg Harbor Township.

Helene Goldman, 76, was in her 2011 Toyota Avalon attempting to exit Village Grande in the Bargaintown section of the township onto Mill Road at 7:42 a.m. Friday when the she lost control. Investigators believe Goldman suffered a medical issue while driving.

The vehicle crashed through the median on Village Grande Drive, striking a traffic sign and several landscaped bushes.

The Avalon made a wide left turn onto Mill Road, drifting off the road over private property before swerving back onto the roadway and over the center yellow line.

After riding onto the sidewalk, the car crashed into a vinyl fence, finally coming to a rest after hitting a tree.

Egg Harbor Township Police responded to the accident and Goldman was treated at the scene by paramedics. She was then taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus where she is in serious condition.

Traffic was detoured for an hour and a half due to the crash.

The accident is being investigated by Officer Louis Poletis of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
