Drone Captures Aerial Views of Schuylkill River

An epic new drone video captured stunning aerial views of Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River Sunday, as ice coated the glimmering waterways along the river trail.

The man behind the project, Philadelphia native and photographer Rocco Avallone, launched his drone from a trail leading to the Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk.

“I knew they had built a boardwalk down there, but I hadn’t checked it out yet,” Avallone said. “So I thought it would be cool to get a bird’s eye view of it.”

The almost two-minute video took Avallone approximately ten minutes to shoot. He navigated the drone from the ground and dictated its movement using a remote control.

The drone-enthusiast has also captured videos from other spots in Philly, including the Divine Lorraine Hotel and the Reading Terminal Market.

But his work is not just kept within the boundaries of Philadelphia.

“I like to go out and film different places wherever I go,” Avallone said. “In December, I took it around the world with me.”

In the past, Avallone captured scenic views in Milan, Amsterdam, Japan among other cities – and already has his mind set on his next location.

“I am planning to go to South Africa later on this summer and I’m hoping to take it there with me,” he said.
