Damaged Chopper Lands Man Prison Time

Damaging a helicopter landed one man 10 years of confinement.

Matthew Montgomery, 33, of Trevose was a Boeing employee at the Ridley Township plant.

In May 2008, Montgomery intentionally cut through half of a bundle of 150 electrical wires of a “Chinook” helicopter disabling the aircraft.

The chopper was to be delivered to the U.S. Army.

Boeing had to replace and retest all wires and systems related to that bundle of wires and had to close the plant for its investigation.

Montgomery was sentenced to 10 years confinement, five of which must be served in prison, the other five served at home.

He must also pay $110,500 in restitution and complete three years supervised release, Acting United States Attorney Laurie Magid said.
