The South Philly son accused of shooting his father in the face from the back seat of the family car — while dad was driving — will remain behind bars until his trial.
Kymere Corbin’s parents were driving him to rehab earlier this month when Corbin shot his 42-year-old father Elbert Corbin Jr. with a gun he found in the car, according to court documents obtained by NBC10.
On Friday, Judge William I. Maruszczak reduced Corbin's bail from $500,000 to $250,000 while holding the 22-year-old on 11 counts including aggravate assault, reckless endangerment and carrying an unlicensed firearms. Corbin was not able to post bail.
Corbin's parents were seated in the front of the car April 7 as they drove along Interstate 76. His mother told police they were taking Kymere Corbin to the Malvern Institute for drug and mental health treatment when Corbin and his father started arguing over the father's involvement in his son's life.
Corbin then stated "look what he gave me!" as he pulled out the pistol, said the affidavit. A struggle ensued, and as Elbert Corbin tried to pry the gun away from his son, the firearm went off, police said.
Elbert Corbin survived the shooting.
Corbin originally told investigators that his father took the gun from him and shot himself but later recanted and admitted to accidentally shooting his father during a struggle in the car, said police.
Corbin is set to be formally arraigned on June 10, said Maruszczak.
