A contractor has been hired to clean up the northeastern Pennsylvania land formerly owned by a man accused of killing three people at a municipal meeting following a long-running dispute over the property.
The Pocono Record reports that Ross Township supervisors voted Monday night to hire Papillon Contracting to demolish two buildings and remove trash from the property formerly owned by 60-year-old Rockne Newell.
Newell lost the debris-strewn property after a long legal battle with the township in the Pocono Mountains community about 85 miles north of Philadelphia.
Authorities allege that days after the sheriff's sale, Newell sprayed dozens of rifle rounds at an August meeting of supervisors, killing two residents and the township zoning officer. Monroe County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
