3 Brothers Sentenced for Leading Violent Drug Ring in Camden

Three brothers who led a violent Camden drug ring that authorities say had ties to Mexican drug cartels are now headed to prison.

Authorities say Omar Urbina Sr., of Philadelphia, and his brothers, Edwin and Edward, both of Camden, controlled open-air drug markets in Camden for several years. They say the men sold hundreds of thousands of dollars a month in heroin and cocaine and relied on violence to protect their territory.

Omar Urbina received a 14-year sentence on Friday. His brothers both received 10-year terms.

Acting state Attorney General Robert Lougy says the ring was dismantled as part of "Operation North Pole" in November 2013.

The brothers were among 42 people indicted in September 2014 for alleged roles in the drug ring. Thirty-six people have since pleaded guilty.
