Plane Crashes at NJ Airport

A plane crashed on the runway at the Atlantic City International Airport in the early evening Tuesday.

Authorities are investigating the crash of a single-engine plane. The aircraft, a Piper PA-28, was attempting to take off when it collided with a fence and flipped over at the end of the runway around 5 p.m., according to officials.

The only person on board was the pilot, who was able to escape, according to reports.

South Jersey Transportation Authority spokesman Kevin Rehmann tells The Press of Atlantic City the pilot exited the wreckage seemingly unharmed. The plane sustained substantial damage.

The pilot wasn't identified.
