Family Pays $5,000 Ransom to Get Beaten Man Back: Police

Philadelphia Police spent the morning trying to figure out what happened to an alleged beating and abduction victim.

A family paid to get their loved one home this morning after he was beaten and bruised during an apparent abduction.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, the bloodied man returned to his Wynnefield section of Philadelphia home but the investigation had just begun into what happened.

About an hour earlier, his family called police to let them know they had paid a $5,000 ransom but the man remained missing. The man returned to his Diamond Street home driving his sister’s car, according to Philadelphia Police

EMTs helped the yet-to-be identified victim -- his face bloodied and his movements slowed -- into an ambulance and rushed him to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania.

Investigators didn’t reveal when the man, who is in his late 20s to early 30s, was taken from his home. The family told investigators that they paid the ransom but investigators didn’t reveal how the money was exchanged.

Investigators spent the morning pouring over evidence and interviewing family members.

Police gave no immediate information on possible suspects or a motive.
