Santa Claus and firefighters rushed in to rescue a man and four nuns who were injured in a crash in Delaware County over the weekend.
Santa was riding around in a firetruck with members of the Bethel Township Volunteer Fire Company Sunday.
"Santa Claus stopped by here early in the afternoon and asked us if we could run him around the townships so he can see the kids, give them candy canes," said Bethel Township Fire Company Deputy Chief Jeff Kane.
As they waived to children in the town, the firefighters' emergency pagers went off. They were then alerted to a two-vehicle crash that had occurred on Conchester Highway in Garnet Valley around 7 p.m.
Officials say four nuns from the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth were in a vehicle traveling eastbound on Rt. 322 when they were struck head-on by a driver traveling westbound. Responding emergency crews, including Santa, had to free the victims from the wreckage.
"Santa Claus helped us out a lot," Deputy Chief Kane said. "He sat on top of that roof and gave his blessings down on us and we worked hard to save five lives."
All five victims were taken to the hospital and are in critical condition/ The four nuns are all from the Philadelphia area.

"We ask for continued prayers for our injured Sisters and for the other driver involved in the accident," a spokesperson for the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth told NBC10.
The Delaware County District Attorney's Office is investigating the crash.
