An Atlantic County man is accused of beating his girlfriend to death with a hammer.
Lashawn Smith, 36, is charged in the murder of his girlfriend Sarah Phillips, 28.
On Friday at 5:04 a.m., police were called to a home on S. Zion Road in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey for a report of an injured woman. When they arrived they found Phillips unresponsive inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Smith repeatedly struck her with a hammer earlier that morning. He was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.
