Three teenagers were arrested Sunday night after they allegedly threw bottles at Philadelphia police officers at the same Philadelphia recreation center where a similar incident took place last month, according to investigators.
Police said about 400 teenagers gathered at the Lonnie Young Recreation Center on 1100 Chelten Avenue around 7:30 p.m. for a cookout. Some of the teens allegedly began acting disorderly and threw bottles and rocks at the officers.
At least one of the officers was hit by a bottle, though he or she was not injured. Police also said two of their vehicles were vandalized.
Police cleared the rec center and activated ground and air patrol units to force the teens out of the area. At least three of the teens were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Police said a similar incident occurred at the same location on July 16 when a large crowd of teens who gathered for a cookout began throwing items at police officers. Police decided not to arrest anyone during that incident.
