Philadelphia Police are searching for a man who was caught on camera trying to steal a cash register from an Old City restaurant.
On Friday at 3:17 a.m., a white vehicle pulled in front of Mrs. K’s restaurant on the 300 block of Chestnut Street. An unidentified man then left the vehicle and opened the front door of the restaurant with a key, police said.
Once inside, the suspect removed a cash register drawer and placed it in his vehicle. Surveillance video captured him trying to remove the main cash register drawer that was bolted to the restaurant corner. After an unsuccessful attempt, he fled in the vehicle which was last seen traveling east on Chestnut Street.
The suspect is described as a thin man between the ages of 20 and 30 with short dark hair, a tattoo sleeve and several tattoos on his left arm and a tattoo on the inside of his right forearm. He was last seen wearing a white hat with “NY” on it, yellow shirt, tan calf-length shorts and Nike sneakers. He was also driving a white 4-door sedan possibly with tinted windows, police said.
