We found ourselves tucked away in a dark corner of Center City's T.A. Flannery's on more than one occasion. The bar was perfect for avoiding people you knew, because it wasn't trendy, and therefore never full. Watching hockey at Flannery's was one of the most underrated experiences in Philly bar culture.
There has long been discussion of Flannery's becoming a gastropub over the past few years, and it's finally a reality. The bar now known as Rogue's Gallery cut the ribbon last month, and word is just beginning to trickle out. The beer list is full of quality local brews and prices are still wallet-friendly.
The kitchen has undergone the most change, as Chef Shawn Sollberger, formerly of Gunner's Run, has given the trendy spin to bar classics, which replaces, well, a bar that was bereft of decent food altogether.
