The producers whose lush acoustics created soul hits like "If You Don't Know Me By Now" now have the street outside their Philadelphia headquarters renamed in their honor.
The 300-block of South Broad Street was rechristened "Gamble and Huff Walk" along the Avenue of the Arts Wednesday in honor of Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff.
A concert and ceremony appending "Gamble and Huff Walk" to the street's name was held outside the duo’s Philadelphia International Records building.
Gamble and Huff are among the most prolific songwriting teams, having written more than 3,000 songs within 35 years.
They were the producers behind hits like “Love Train” and “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now.” Performers including Teddy Pendergrass, Patti LaBelle, Lou Rawls and the O’Jays recorded with Gamble and Huff, helping create the style known as the Sound of Philadelphia.
