Firefighters Battle Warehouse Blaze

Neighbors are frustrated with a fire scene as they had to be evacuated for safety reasons.

Flames broke out in a warehouse today and quickly grew to three alarms in North Philadelphia. Dozens of Philadelphia firefighters responded to the blaze at N. American Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue around noon.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the American Red Cross responded. There's concern that homes near the site are in danger of collapse. As a precaution, homes are being evacuated and the American Red Cross is assisting.

Earlier in the day, the fire quickly grew to three alarms, according to dispatchers. Dispatchers said the building appears to be some sort of refrigeration warehouse.

Heavy smoke poured from the structure as firefighters battled the flames. No reports of injuries.

American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania spokesman Dave Schrader says the Red Cross is assisting one of two families that were displaced. The family dog is going to a friend's home for care.
