Celebrate the City

Glimpse Phillys past and present before it's gone

The Art Institute of Philadelphia's exhibit, Philadelphia Stories: Yours, Mine and Ours officially closes tomorrow, which makes tonight a great time to view the impressive collection of photographs that document life in our fair city.

The exhibit showcases the lives of ordinary Philadelphians and spans the years from the advent of photography to present day. The images, culled from the City of Philadelphia's Department of Records' archive and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, capture what and how we ate, drank, played, worked and shopped, and chronicles the changing face of the city. The exhibit is a preview of a larger multimedia web project by the Historical Society that will launch in the spring.

The 1622 Chestnut Street Gallery is open until 7:00 tonight and is free to the public, which makes stopping by a great (and cheap!) option for a date.
