Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and her running mate will hold their first rally together on Tuesday on Philadelphia's Temple University.
Harris and her running mate -- who she has not yet publicly named -- will be in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024. Temple University confirmed on Friday that the rally will be held at the Liacouras Center.
Top contenders for the Democratic vice presidential nominee include Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Shapiro canceled a trip to the Hamptons this past weekend amid growing speculation that he was the frontrunner for the position.

Harris' advisers, led by former Attorney General Eric Holder, have been combing through reams of paperwork submitted by potential running mates, while the candidate herself is holding personal conversations with the finalists, according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity with the Associated Press to discuss details that haven’t been made public.
Harris, according to another person familiar with the matter who spoke with the AP, is seeking someone with executive experience who can also serve as a governing partner.
There is lots of speculation about whether it will be Pa. Governor Josh Shapiro who was one of three people she met with at her home in Washington D.C. on Sunday, a source told NBC News.
Mayor Cherelle Parker is among the Pennsylvania Democrats who have been pushing for Governor Josh Shapiro to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate pick.
"I’m a Philly girl through and through. The Eagles, the Phillies, the Flyers, the Sixers...I’m rooting for the home team at all costs," Parker said at a press conference on Monday.
District Attorney Larry Krasner didn’t specifically say he wants Shapiro to be Harris’ pick but said he fully endorses her ticket.
Harris would be the first woman, first Black woman and first person of South Asian descent to serve as president. Many Democrats have argued she should balance her ticket both demographically and politically.
The Harris campaign revealed which cities she and her future running mate will stop at which include Philadelphia followed by Western Wisconsin, Detroit, Raleigh, Savannah, Phoenix and Las Vegas, according to the Harris campaign.
Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison announced Friday that Harris has won enough delegates to secure the Democratic presidential nomination. The DNC will not make an official announcement of results until Monday evening, when the virtual voting process closes for delegates to next month’s Democratic National Convention.
JD Vance in South Philly
The same day that presidential candidate Harris is set to appear in public with her selected running mate for the first time, Republican candidate for vice president, JD Vance is expected to greet a crowd in South Philadelphia.
On Monday, a person who answered the phone at 2300 Arena, located at 2300 S Swanson Street in South Philadelphia, confirmed that the Ohio senator was scheduled to host a rally at that venue on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024.
However, they were unable to confirm a set time for the event, saying the schedule could be changed at any time.
Though, the Philadelphia Inquirer noted that the event could be held around noon.
