SE XIENTE LA FIESTA” Holiday Celebration for Norris Square and Surrounding Community

When: Saturday, Dec 16th from 4 – 8 pm

Where: Norris Square Park, 2100 N. Howard Street

Who: Included is Xiente CEO Dr. Michelle Carrera Morales. Musical performances by Los Jibaros del BarriosLos Bomberos de la Calle, Swing de Guille, and DJ Kade. The emcee will be Maria del Pilar, La Mega’s morning show host.

What: Se Xiente la Fiesta – a holiday celebration with music, games, face painting, food, holiday stands, and more! This beloved holiday festival will return after a three-year hiatus bringing free music, local food trucks, artwork and merchandise from community-based small businesses and artisans, and activities for children, teens, and families. This celebration will be a true reflection of the community’s culture and spirit, fostering a sense of togetherness and engagement, and highlighting its Latino heritage.

This event is free and open to the public – the more, the merrier.

Ben Franklin's Birthday Celebration

When: Friday, January 19, 2024 · 10am - 1pm EST

Where: Panel held at: American Philosophical Society (APS): Benjamin Franklin Hall, 427 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Who: Honoree: Frank Gehry to receive the 2024 Founder’s Award

What: The public is invited to a free and festive event to celebrate Benjamin Franklin’s 318th birthday. Residents, visitors, colonial characters, Philadelphia dignitaries, and Franklin himself will gather in Old City to hear a panel discussion examining the important role of craftsmanship in America and honor this year’s Founder’s Award recipient, architectural great Frank Gehry. Celebrants will also be able to enjoy sweets and treats from Franklin Fountain. The event will be followed by a lively procession to Franklin’s gravesite, featuring music, a fire engine, banners and flags.  Event is free and open to the public; seats are limited: RSVP at:

Asociaciِón Puertoriqueños en Marcha 19th Annual Sugar Cane Festival

When: Saturday, June 10th from 12 pm - 4 pm

Where: 6th Street and Germantown Avenue

What: Asociación Puertorriqueňos En Marcha (APM), a Latino community and economic development nonprofit, announces the 19TH Sugar Cane Festival! The annual celebration is bigger and better this year, filling three blocks of live entertainment and featuring the first Dominoes Tournament where participants can win cash prizes! They have the Music of Crespo, Grupo Hipnosis, Chamo & De La Musik, Los Bomberos de la Calle, and Los Dominantes! They will also have  a Children’s play area, and great food!

The Festival honors the historic significance of the sugarcane crop for generations of Puerto Ricans and recognizes the sugarcane workers who migrated from the Island to Philadelphia to work in the refinery. They will have Pavas and sugarcane to hand out to Festival attendees. Come early to get yours!

The Festival is free and open to the public.

Collaborative 2023

What: Collaborative 2023, hosted by Classy, a subsidiary of GoFundMe, is a two-day conference that brings together forward-thinking nonprofit leaders to uncover the ideas and strategies necessary to propel the industry forward and help nonprofits raise more.

Theatre Horizon's Autism Drama Program Final Showcase

When: Saturday, March 25 at 12:15pm

Where: Theatre Horizon - 401 DeKalb St, Norristown, PA 19401

What: As the culmination of the six-week Autism Drama program, Theatre Horizon will host a final showcase to highlight the students' talents and growth. The Storytelling & the Art of Playwriting students have been hard at work creating their own original material, while the brand new Acting 101 class has been focusing on the fundamentals of acting technique. Excitingly, they will bring these classes together by casting the Acting 101 students in scenes from the scripts the playwriting students have been creating, allowing the acting students the opportunity to perform and the playwriting students to see their work embodied. After the performance, there will be a brief reception with light snacks and refreshments in the lobby. Masks will be required in the theatre, but are optional during the lobby reception.

The Rare Initiative

What: A fundraiser at Grooming/Daycare Facility for The Rare Initiative, a non-profit organization that funds research for all rare, underfunded cancers!

Pampering and upkeep services will be offered such as nail trims, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, sanitary trims, colorful extensions for the pups, and other fun add-ons/activities for the pets & pet parents in our communities. They also will be partnering with the Cherry Hill K-9 unit, and a few other dog vendors to make this a super fun event for everyone! Flyers Charities Carnival

When: Sunday, March 26th at 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Where: Wells Fargo Center

What: Full scale carnival inside the Wells Fargo Center with the opportunity to meet the Flyers players at Sign and Snap sessions, ride the Ferris wheel, climb a 25-foot rock wall, meet Flyers Alumni, participate in games with the players, enter raffles, and more!

Theatre Horizon Presents World Premiere of TOWN

When: Thursday, September 15th through Sunday, September 18th at 7:30 PM

Where: On the lawn of the Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy | 1601 Markley Street, Norristown, PA 19401

What: Theatre Horizon, located in Norristown, Pennsylvania, has been eagerly preparing for the world premiere of TOWN, a new work with music written by and for the residents of Norristown. TOWN is a social practice theater work that uses Thornton Wilder’s classic play Our Town as a provocation and structural map to reconsider the nostalgic myth of homogenous small-town America, and revise our understanding of community in the 2020s. It is inspired by interviews and story circles with more than 130 Norristonians throughout 2021 and 2022 led by Community Coordinator Marisol Rosa-Shapiro.

Tickets to TOWN are complimentary but reservations are highly encouraged. Reservations will be open on Theatre Horizon's website on August 15; guests should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the performance. Join Temple Health for a free event where attendees can receive a free cable gun lock, and can also take advantage of some important health offerings, including blood pressure screening, educational materials on managing blood pressure and reducing risk of stroke, handouts on Temple Health Community Connect, a go-to resource for food and housing support, health services, legal services and everything in between, at community-based organizations near you.

The Philadelphia Latino Film Festival

What: The Philadelphia Latino Film Festival will celebrate LOLA-nominated films that highlight experiences of African Descent (afrodescendientes) and/or the Afro-Latino Diaspora. Out of 250 submissions, 70 projects were selected to be showcased by the 2022 screening committee.

Philadelphia Tango Festival

When: Thursday, June 2nd through Sunday, June 5th

Where: Lithuanian Music Hall - 2715 E. Allegheny Ave., Philadelphia

What: The  2022 Philadelphia Tango Festival returns, after a three-year hiatus, with programs and performances that make this year’s festival, the 10th edition, stronger than ever! One of the largest tango festivals in the country, the event will feature debut performances of artists from around the world and a special salute to women. The event draws hundreds of tango dancers who come from across the U.S. to Philadelphia to participate in tango workshops, concerts, social dances, lectures on tango subjects, tango films, and more. The festival also provides an opportunity to purchase tango clothing and shoes with a variety of vendors.

18th Annual Sugar Cane Festival

When: Saturday, June 18th | Noon to 4 p.m.

Where: 6th Street & Germantown Ave., North Philadelphia

What: Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha (APM) will host its 18th Annual Sugar Cane Festival on Saturday, June 18th, along three blocks centered at Sixth Street and Germantown Avenue. The Sugar Cane Festival kicks off the start of summer in Latino Philadelphia and is the first live Festival since 2019. It celebrates the historic significance of the sugarcane crop for generations of Puerto Ricans and honors the sugarcane workers who migrated from the Island to Philadelphia to work in the refinery. The event will feature information and presentations by community businesses and organizations, a children’s area with face painting, balloon animals and DIY carnival games, great music, and great food. The festival is free and open to the public.
