An alleged robber has learned if you rob a bank, a SEPTA bus probably isn't the best getaway vehicle.
Police say an unidentified man entered the Wells Fargo Bank on the 9100 block of East Roosevelt Boulevard around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday and handed a demand note to the teller. The suspect allegedly stole $500 and then fled the bank and jumped onto a SEPTA bus.
Police temporarily stopped five lanes of traffic on the Boulevard at Ryan Avenue as responding officers searched for the man. Investigators say a driver ignored the closed lanes and crashed into a police vehicle. No one was injured in the collision however.
Officers were eventually able to track the bus down and boarded the vehicle after it stopped on Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. They then arrested the suspect without incident and recovered the stolen money.
Police have not yet revealed the suspect's identity or the specific charges against him.
