Philadelphia detectives are investigating the discovery of a body that was found in a dumpster in the city's Bridesburg neighborhood.
The body was found around 3 p.m. in a trash dumpster in the 2900 block of E. Orthodox Street. Investigators say the body is likely that of a woman and that the victim only had on a bra and underwear.
That street is about ten blocks away from the Betsy Ross Bridge.
Officials say the site where the body was found is a transfer point for garbage that crews collect from dumpsters across the city. The trash is eventually shipped to a large landfill in York, Pennsylvania.
"The truck that drops off trash at this location makes many, many stops at various locations throughout the city," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Detectives are currently retracing the truck's route to see if the various pickup locations offer any clues.
Officials have not yet revealed the victim's identity or a cause of death.
