An employee was stabbed by a shoplifter at a Walmart in Northeast Philadelphia early Friday morning.
The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. at the Walmart store located at the Philadelphia Mills, formerly the Franklin Mills Mall.
According to police, a customer had a 48-inch flat screen television and a pair of boots and was trying to leave the store.
When the man was confronted by a store employee, police say he presented an old $10 receipt.
“When confronted about this worthless receipt, this male said ‘I’m going to kill you’ and then he pulled out a folding knife and lunged it towards the chest of the cashier,” Philadelphia Police Captain Drew Techner explained.
Captain Techner said the employee blocked the suspect from stabbing him in the chest, but was stabbed in his right forearm.
The suspect then ran out of the store with the flat screen TV and left the scene in a light-colored hatchback.
