About 100 homes and local businesses were left without power on Thursday because of an underground fire. Skyforce 10 was on the scene as PECO worked to fix a burnt transformer.

An underground transformer fire caused Philadelphia Police to block off streets in Society Hill late Thursday morning.

The underground fire not far from the Society Hill Towers caused 100 customers to lose service around 11:30 a.m. It also sent smoke out of a manhole at 2nd and Walnut streets.

Crews closed areas streets as PECO crews worked to restore power. The utility said it expected to get everyone back online within an hour but as of 3 p.m. PECO crews continued to work and at least 25 customers remained without power.

No injuries were reported.
