Police are investigating the robbery of a Wilmington bike shop.
Authorities say that bikes as well as expensive tools were stolen from the Urban Bike Project on N. Market Street sometime between the hours of 9:30 p.m. on Thursday and 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
The Urban Bike Project is a non-profit bike shop run by volunteers that allows members of the community to fix their bikes for free.
The Project also offers free bikes to those in need and teaches kids bike mechanics and maintenance.
The Project uses the income from their bike sales to fund their community programs meaning that the recent theft could have a devastating impact on their operations.
"We actually had some expensive bikes in here," said Urban Bike Project Manager Laura Saperstein. "The sale of one of those bikes could probably pay our entire month's rent."
If you have any information on this theft, please call the Wilmington Police.
