Mom Leaves Kids in Backseat of SUV While Getting Liquor, Faces Charges

Authorities charged a woman after she left her children in a running SUV that was stolen from a South Jersey liquor store parking lot late at night.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said 32-year-old Kyna Garnett was charged Wednesday with abuse and neglect.

New surveillance video was released of a man accused of stealing an SUV with two children inside outside a South Jersey liquor store. NBC10’s Doug Shimell has the details.

Authorities said the Lawnside woman's 8-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter were left in the Chevy SUV as she went inside Colombo Liquors on White Horse Pike near Ashland Avenue in Magnolia around 11 Saturday night

Police say a man stole a car with two kids in the back seat in South Jersey overnight.

NBC10 obtained surveillance video showing a man, later identified as 38-year-old Christopher Dumas, staring at the Chevy from across the street. Police say the suspect then walked towards the running vehicle, climbed inside and took off -- with the woman's two children sitting in the back.

Dumas panicked -- despite not being chased -- and then collided with another SUV and flipped the SUV on a lawn in nearby Audubon, said police.

Dumas, the children and the driver of the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries.

The Paulsboro man was charged with kidnapping and related offenses.
