Controversial afternoon drive host Josh Innes has been fired from his role at Sportsradio 94 WIP, parent company CBS Radio confirmed Wednesday afternoon.
Sources familiar with the situation said the final straw was the response by Innes to a controversy involving his chief rivalβ Mike Missanelli at 97.5 The Fanatic β over a caller that regularly contacted The Fanatic's show. The caller turned out to be a white producer acting as a black character. CBS Radio was reportedly not pleased with the racial overtones of Innes' comments on that situation.
When Innes was promoted from evening to afternoon drive host early last year, he was given a one-year contract with CBS holding a one-year option for 2016. The company picked up that option.
But after an initial strong start where he surpassed Missanelli in the ratings, Innes began to fade. He also was suspended earlier this year for referring to Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce as the team's "house negro."
