1 Killed, 2 Injured in Crash in Southwest Philadelphia

One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash in Southwest Philadelphia early Sunday morning.

The crash happened about 2:40 a.m. on Island Avenue at Lindbergh Boulevard.

A 2015 Chevy Equinox lost control and struck a SEPTA utility pole. The car ended up on trolley tracks and sustained heavy front-end damage.

When police arrived, they found the 46-year-old driver and front-seat passenger, a 36-year-old male, standing outside the car.

A 45-year-old male was found slumped over in the back seat of the car. The male, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m.

The driver and the 36-year-old passenger were taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
