A pilot is dead after his small plane went down in a heavily-wooded area in southern Camden County, New Jersey, county officials said.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office identified the pilot as 65-year-old David Sees of Marlton, New Jersey.
Sees' single-engine Cessna 150 crashed around 11:15 a.m. into the backyard of a home along the 600 block of Jackson Road in the Atco section of Waterford Township, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Ron Midili told NBC10 he heard the plane as it crashed to the ground.
"It sounded like something hit the road," Midili said.
The yellow-and-white-painted prop plane was left crumpled and crushed next to a large tree — feet from a in-ground pool. The fuselage was covered in flame-retardant foam.
"He was 150 feet from a residential area," said Waterford Township Police Chief Daniel Cormaney. "There was a fuel leakage from the tank."
