Police Searching for Man Wanted in Abduction, Sex Assault

A woman abducted at gunpoint, bound, held in a car, and physically and sexually assaulted in West Philadelphia on Saturday knew her attacker, police said on Sunday.

Special Victims Unit detectives continued to look for the man Sunday, police said, a day after the 20-year-old woman told investigators that he approached her at gunpoint at 49th Street and Lancaster Avenue about 4 a.m. Saturday and forced her into a black sedan, then bound her with duct tape and sexually assaulted her.

The victim finally managed to escape from the man, who police have said is believed to be about 23 years old, at roughly 3 p.m. Saturday, at 57th Street and Larchwood Avenue -- two miles from where she was initially assaulted.

Police have not said whether it was the suspect who dropped her off at that location.

"I heard a lot of screaming," said Monique Wright, who lives near where the woman was found. "She was like, 'Get off me! Get off me!' When I came downstairs she was already out of the car. Her arms had blood on them. She must've been bleeding from her face."

The woman was taken to the Special Victims Unit by police.

Police described the suspect as a black male with dreadlocks and a long beard, and the car he drove had a trash bag covering its back driver's side window. They continued to search for him and investigate on Sunday.
