Suicidal Man Falls 400 Feet to His Death

Police say a man took his own life after plunging from a 400-foot radio station tower in Long Branch.

Police say 60-year-old Pedro Macias of Elizabeth fell through the roof of an adjacent building Monday night.

Public Safety Director Jason Roebuck told the Asbury Park Press the building was condemned and unsafe.

“He fell through the roof of a building and (was) stuck there,” Roebuck told the paper.

Long Branch Fire Marshal Kevin Hayes told the Asbury Park Press specially trained firefighters cut a hole in a wall to recover the body because the vacant building wasn’t safe to enter.

“The problem was that fire department couldn’t go inside the building because it was an unsafe structure already. So they had to go from the outside in,” Hayes told the paper.
