Philadelphia has been chosen to be the host city for the country's largest gathering of LGBTQ activists.
The National LGBTQ Task Force will be holding its 29th Creating Change Conference in Philadelphia, bringing more than 4,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer activists, community leaders and allies from around the country.
The event will be held next Jan. 18-22 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. It's expected to generate more than $6.8 million in economic impact for the city, according to the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The Creating Change conference began in November 1988 in Washington, D.C., a year following the 1987 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, according to the Task Force.
About 300 people came out to the first event, and has since grown to more than 4,000 attendees, according to Russell Roybal, executive director of the Task Force.
