Man Sentenced to 52 ½ to 105 Years in Girl's Beating Death

A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to at least a half-century in prison in the beating death of a 4-year-old girl almost three years ago.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that 28-year-old Edward Golphin was sentenced Friday to 52½ to 105 years in prison in the July 2013 death of Seanita Brown.

Golphin was convicted in February of third-degree murder, conspiracy, aggravated assault and child endangerment. He declined to speak before he was sentenced to the maximum term.

The girl's mother, 27-year-old Josephita Brown, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, child endangerment and involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to four to eight years in prison.

Defense attorney Michael Wallace said Golphin was molested and regularly beaten as a child. He called his client "a hand grenade ready to explode."
